Garden of the Gods is a grouping of red sandstone formations located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is a registered National Natural Landmark and has been ranked as the top city park in the US. There is no fee to enter.
Human activity in the park dates back at least 3,000 years. According to indigenous lore the grounds are sacred and even rival tribes would lay their weapons down before entering.
There are about 15 miles of trails in the park. And while regulated, there are also a number of rock-climbing options available.
In a normal year, it is the site for the Garden of the Gods 10 mile and 10K races. Which is the first leg in the local Triple Crown of Racing, along with the Pikes Peak and Barr Trail Mountain races. But this year’s race was cancelled because of the pandemic.
